A 54-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his 45-year-old wife during a church service in Makonde Shadani village, Limpopo, on Saturday is expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court today.

The man was arrested after he handed himself to the police on Monday afternoon.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the man’s licensed firearm believed to have been used to commit the crime was confiscated during his arrest.

“The suspect is said to have entered the premises at around 18:00 while the congregation was engaged in worship and callously fired multiple shots at the victim, resulting in her untimely death,” Ledwaba adds.

The man is said to have fled the scene in a silver-grey sedan after the shooting.

“While the motive behind this appalling incident remains unclear, domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” Ledwaba concludes.
