Load-shedding extended for tomorrow and Friday

Power cuts have been ramped up to stage 4 on Friday night with a possibility that load-shedding might be extended to the weekend if any further delays or breakdowns occur.

Eskom announced that load-shedding will be implemented from tomorrow until Friday midnight with a strong possibility of power cuts over the weekend if more breakdowns occur.

A delay in returning three generating units to service as well as breakdowns of seven units at five power stations are the reason for the ramped up load-shedding schedule, the power utility says.

The revised load-shedding schedule for Thursday and Friday are as follows:

• Stage 2 load-shedding is currently being implemented until midnight.
• Stage 2: Thursday 05:00 – 16:00.
• Stage 4: Thursday 16:000 – 00:00.
• Stage 2: Friday 05:00 – 00:00.

Eskom says that Koeberg Unit 2 is expected to return to service on Friday night, but warns of load-shedding over the weekend if further unit faults occur.
