Load-shedding reduced after 6 units back online

Power reprieve announced for now – but predicted icy weather could soon place renewed strain on the Eskom grid.

As South Africans await a second cold front later this week, Eskom says load-shedding will be reduced to stages 1 and 3 from Tuesday after six units were returned to service since Friday.

Four generating units have been delayed in returning to service.

Your load-shedding schedule until further notice:

  • Stage 4: 16:00 until 05:00 tomorrow
  • Stage 1: 05:00 until 16:00 tomorrow
  • Stage 3: 16:00 until 05:00 on Wednesday

The stage 1 and 3 pattern will be repeated until Eskom publishes another update.

The power utility says electricity demand is expected to increase towards the weekend.

The South African Weather Service says an intense cold front will hit the Western Cape by tomorrow, moving to the Eastern Cape by Wednesday and KZN and the interior parts of the country by Thursday.

Snowfall is predicted for high grounds in the Cape provinces as well as KZN and the Drakensberg.
