Load-shedding threat for next 3 days

Eskom warns of short notice load-shedding after five units fail.

South Africans must ready themselves for the possibility of power cuts at short notice during peak evening hours over the next three days.

Eskom says a delay in returning three units to service – at Arnot, Kusile and Koeberg – and the failure of a further five units, have put extra pressure on the grid. Medupi, Hendrina and Camden each experienced a unit failure, while two units at Majuba are out of service.

The power utility says that 2 986MW is out on maintenance while 15 513MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.
If any more breakdowns or delays occur, stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented at short notice between 16:00 and midnight.
