Eskom has warned that although load-shedding was suspended yesterday, a severely constrained grid might see stage 2 power cuts announced at short notice.

The cold front expected over the weekend, a mechanical problem at Koeberg unit 2, breakdowns of two units at Hendrina Power Station as well as delays in returning four units at other power stations to service, added to the pressure on the grid.

Eskom says the unit at Koeberg could be out of service for as long as five days where after it will take three days to ramp up to return to service.

Eight generating units are expected to return to service by Monday.

If load-shedding is announced, it will be tonight from 16:00 until midnight and over the same time on Saturday and Sunday.

Currently, 4 526MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance while 14 574MW is lost due to breakdowns.
