Loaded truck crashes into block of flats in KZN
Residents at a block of flats in the Ridgeview area of Cato Manor experienced a rude awakening this morning when a truck lost control and ploughed directly into the apartment building.
Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics were on the scene of a serious accident this morning in Ridgeview, KZN, where it’s believed that a truck lost control and ploughed through a fence and then into a block of flats.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the driver was severely entrapped in the wreckage and the Durban Fire Department and the Netcare911 Rescue Unit were called to assist.
“While ALS Paramedics worked to stabilise the man, together with EMRS Paramedics, the rescue continued. After approximately an hour, the patient was cut free from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life,” says Jamieson.
Paramedics worked to stabilise the man inside the vehicle while the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to extricate him from the wreckage.

The patient sustained serious injuries, and together with EMRS Paramedics, ALS Paramedics and Netcare 911, he was transported to a nearby hospital.
One occupant from the premises sustained moderate injuries and was treated by paramedics on scene before being transported to hospital.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the crash are unknown, however SAPS are on scene and will be investigating further,” says Jamieson.
