Makazole Mapimpi: I’ll never take Bok fans for granted

Watch as the world cup-winning winger reflects on that viral video of workers singing to him while paying his groceries.

Makazole Mapimpi recounts being showered with praise by passionate supporters after helping the Springboks defend their world title last year.

In a short clip from Chasing the Sun 2, the official documentary of South Africa’s 2023 Rugby World Cup triumph, the two-time champion looks back on when patrons and workers sang to him while shopping for groceries.

“I was surprised when I went to pay and they were singing,” the Bok winger said. “I was kind of shy because I didn’t know what to do… if I must join and sing or if I must wait and clap my hands.

“It’s something special, and I’m grateful and privileged to have people show me such love. I will never take that thing for granted.”
