Man allegedly kills wife’s friend with spade

A man, 52, has been arrested after he allegedly killed his wife’s friend with a spade in Kagiso, Krugersdorp, in Gauteng.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said police received a phone call yesterday from the suspect’s wife to report the fight between her husband and her friend in the yard,Krugersdorp News reported.

When police arrived they found the victim, who the husband claimed to be his wife’s boyfriend, bleeding from head and upper body injuries, added Sibiya. “The suspect told police the deceased attacked and stoned his windows. When he opened the door to stop him, the deceased started attacking and wounding him with an unknown object,” Sibiya said.

Sibiya said the suspect allegedly retaliated and tried to defend himself using a spade. “The man was lying on the ground with an open wound to the face and bleeding from the back of his head. He was certified dead on the scene,” added Sibiya.

The suspect appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court facing charges of murder.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested for allegedly hacking his father to death with a spade in Kwaggafontein, Mpumalanga in January. The 56-year-old man was attacked while he was on his way to work at about 5am, said Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

“He died on the scene. His 26-year-old son allegedly locked himself in a room after the attack.”

“When the police asked why he killed his father, he indicated to the police that his father owed him money for maintenance,” added Mohlala.
