Man dies after car plunges into swimming pool in KZN

The male driver was trapped inside the vehicle.

A homeowner in Athlone Park in KZN discovered a vehicle in his swimming pool this morning. Terrence Govender said he was seated in his lounge when he heard a loud noise at around 11:00.

He went to check outside his front gate, but then realised his back garden’s retaining wall was broken. This is when he noted the vehicle in a peculiar place.

According to onlookers and neighbours, the vehicle must have hit the nearby curb which forced the car to flip onto its side before sliding through the wall and into the pool.

Emergency services attended to the scene and tried to rescue the entrapped driver. He did, however, not show any signs of life and was pronounced dead after he was freed from the wreckage.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear but investigations are underway.
