Man gets life imprisonment for raping girl (6)
A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Madadeni Regional Court in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, for raping a six-year-old girl.
Other children who were in the yard witnessed the incident and reported it to their grandmother.
The victim was then questioned and confirmed the rape.
A rape case opened at Madadeni Police Station was then taken over by the Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, who later arrested Cebekhulu.
He appeared in court, where bail was opposed until the announcement of his sentence.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the sentence.
“We will continue to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves and make sure that justice is meted out to those who continue to abuse vulnerable children in this province,” she said.
In September, 37-year-old Msawenkosi Robert Zulu was handed a 25-year prison sentence by the Esikhawini Regional Court, KwaZulu-Natal, for the rape of a six-year-old boy.
The accused had asked the victim to help him get mangoes from a nearby tree before raping the boy.
The victim then reported the rape to his mother, who then reported it to police.
