Man granted bail after shipping R15 million aircraft

The Alexandra Magistgrates’ Court has granted bail of R25 000 to the man who was arrested by the Hawks for allegedly stealing an aircraft he had sold to someone else.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the man, Conrad Johannes Kruger, 47, allegedly sold his aircraft (Eurocopter), worth R15 million, to an unidentified man, who then took the same aircraft to the Grand Central Airport for repairs.

“Kruger then went behind the new aircraft owner’s back and claimed the aircraft from the workshop and shipped it to Antarctica, where it was to be used for geological expeditions,” added Mulaudzi.

“It was further discovered that Kruger had secured a lucrative deal with an unnamed Scandinavian government,” he said.

The complainant got the shock of his life when he went to the workshop to check on his newly acquired aircraft, only to be told it was claimed by Kruger, said Mulaudzi.

He then confronted Kruger, who promised to bring back the aircraft but failed to deliver on his promises, added Mulaudzi.

The Hawks were then informed and arrested Kruger.

Kruger, who was granted bail yesterday, will reappear in court on May 5.

Mulaudzi said Kruger had been ordered to hand his passport to the authorities and was warned not to travel overseas without the knowledge of the investigating officer and the senior public prosecutor as part of his bail conditions.
