Man in court after allegedly shooting his ex-fiancée
The man accused of killing his fiancée, Nicolene Schreudery, 35, has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court today.
Garsfontein police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said the suspect, Dawid Connoway, 39, was arrested at his parents’ farm near Bronkhorstpruit on Wednesday night after he allegedly shot dead Schreuder at her workplace in Moreleta Park earlier in the day, Rekord East reported.
“His parents had been arrested for defeating the ends of justice,” added Miller.
Connoway, who had his own electrical business, was said to have greeted Schreudery with a kissbefore allegedly shooting her in the head. It is alleged he then fled on his green scrambler motorbike to a bar, where he drank a couple of drinks before he went into hiding on his parents’ farm.
Miller said Connoway was under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested. Four licensed weapons and an unlicensed one were also found on the farm.
Connoway and Schreudery had been staying together in Bronkhorstspruit, but she had ended the relationship about two weeks ago, after he allegedly accused her of having relationships with other men, said Miller.
Connoway was refused bail and will be back in court on May 18 facing charges of murder and the possession of an illegal firearm.
Last month, a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife in Kagiso, Krugersdorp, in Gauteng. The suspect was arrested at his in-laws’ house in Kagiso Extension 1 after allegedly stabbing his wife to death.
Krugersdorp police spokesperson Constable Tshepiso Mashale said police were called to the scene, where they found the suspect and arrested him.
“The victim sustained multiple stab wounds. Paramedics declared the woman dead on the scene,” said Mashale.
