Man in court for allegedly setting his girlfriend on fire

- The man is charged with seven counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm

A man appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on February 18 after allegedly setting his girlfriend on fire.

The man, whose name is known by Randburg Sun but will not be published until he has pleaded, is facing seven counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for incidents in Kelvin, Sandton from 2016 to 2018.

These include physical abuse as well as dousing his girlfriend in ethanol and setting her on fire. The woman came to court with a friend and watched anxiously as the accused walked passed her to appear before the magistrate.

The case was postponed to March 7 for further investigation.
