Man jailed for the rape of mentally disabled woman, two others

Thamsanqa Ndlovu, 35, had raped two victims on separate occasions in the Umbumbulu area in December 2013, Rising Sun Chatsworthreported.

The third victim had been raped during a period from April 2013 to November 2013.

Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said: “All victims were between the ages of nine and 35 years old.

“It is believed that one of the victims suffered from a mental disorder,” he said.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said rapists and other criminals would continue to face the full wrath of the law.

Last week, labour federation Cosatu welcomed the sentencing of convicted rapist and murderer Tutu Rooi Oliphant.

Oliphant was found to have raped and killed miner Pinky Mosianeduring working hours at Anglo Platinum’s Khomanani mine on February 6, 2012.

Cosatu provincial secretary Solly Phetoe said Oliphant had a criminal record for assaulting and stealing, including a conviction for raping a five-year-old girl for which he is currently serving a life sentence.

“We request the justice department and the investigators to follow the case up again, as it is reported this criminal was not alone. The employer must also account for what happened and help the police to find out who else was there on that day and involved in the killing of the poor woman,” said Phetoe.

Oliphant had been sentenced to 50 years imprisonment for the crimes. His sentence would run concurrently with the 25 year prison sentence for the rape of the five-year-old girl.

In November, the Nquthu Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal convicted and sentenced Philani Mahlaba, 24, to 25 years imprisonment for rape.

Police said a 47-year-old victim had been on her way home in Mondlo when she was accosted by the suspect.

The suspect forced her to his homestead where he repeatedly raped her at knifepoint. The victim managed to escape when the suspect fell asleep and the police were contacted.
