A 56-year-old man has lost his life after he was brutally attacked by a crocodile at a game reserve in Hluhluwe yesterday (June 21).

The tragic incident happened at a dam within the Bonamanzi Game Reserve.

While the details of the incident are being withheld at this stage to protect the family, the game reserve has expressed condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.

“Our hearts are with the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” the reserve stated.

“Out of respect for the family, and due to the sensitive nature of this event, no further details will be shared. We kindly ask that their privacy be respected.”

The incident has prompted calls for communities neighbouring game reserves and visitors to ‘remain aware of wild animals and their natural behaviour, even when safety measures and warnings are in place.’
