Man sentenced for girlfriend’s murder after father hands him over to police

A man from Evaton was recently found guilty of murder after his father reported him to the police.

A 26-year-old man was recently found guilty of murder for stabbing his girlfriend to death in Evaton West near Sebokeng last November.

According to reports, the father of the accused went to the police on November 12 and told the station commander that he had brought his son to the police station because he (his son) had told him that he had killed her girlfriend in their rented back room by stabbing her.

Police spokesperson, Constable Thulisile Msibi said Reginald Lebohang Radebe was then found guilty of murder and sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment.

Msibi said that Evaton station commander, Brigadier Sibuyi welcomed the sentencing and commended Evaton SAPS Detective Sergeant Seepe who made sure that no stone was left unturned during his investigation.

“Evaton SAPS arrested the suspect and carried out a diligent investigation that led to the 15-year direct imprisonment. The docket was allocated to a well-experienced Sergeant Seepe who managed to gather all the information needed before the suspect appeared at Palmridge Magistrate High Court,” Msibi said further adding that Brigadier Sibuyi and the management applauded the Investigating Officer (IO) for his efforts.

“The conviction will serve as a deterrent message to men as GBV has increased. We call on all men to protect women and children as it’s their duty”.
