Man shot and killed during robbery in Boipatong

Information is sought as Boipatong police are investigating a murder case after a man was shot and killed in the early hours.

A peaceful morning in Boipatong turned deadly when a commuter was shot and killed today.

According to local police, the victim, whose identity has not been officially released pending family notification, was on his way to Frikkie Meyer to catch a taxi to Sasolburg, where he is employed.

Initial reports from the scene indicate the deceased was discovered with a gunshot wound to his left chest, near Jet Nteo Commerce and Entrepreneurship School.

The lifeless body of the murdered man was found with a knife gripped in his hand, stained with blood, seemingly suggesting a desperate struggle or a failed attempt at self-defence.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Boipatong police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela says a murder case is being investigated following the incident.

The spokesperson adds that the belongings of the deceased were scattered nearby and that his wallet is missing.

Following the gruesome murder, Maxambela urges anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact Boipatong branch commander Captain Mokhotho on 016 930 2328,” she says.
