Austin Snethemba Mashabane (24) was robbed of his cellphone and shot dead after the Summer Blaze event at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga early on Sunday morning.

According to an article published by Mpumalanga News, the police said Mashabane was with a female friend when they were accosted by two armed men in the parking lot of Mbombela Stadium at about 01:21.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli says Nelspruit police were called to the scene shortly after the attack.

“When members arrived at the scene they found a female who told them that her friend had been shot by two armed men,” says Mdhluli.

He says the men robbed Mashabane of his cellphone and forcefully took the woman’s handbag.

“In the process, the male victim was shot. When paramedics arrived at the scene they declared him dead,” says Mdhluli.

He identified the victim as Mashabane.

Mdhluli says police are investigating cases of armed robbery and murder.

“No one has been arrested thus far and we are calling on anyone with information that can help with the investigation to contact the police.”
