Man shot dead, vehicle hijacked by ATM bombers in Ekurhuleni

An early morning strike by a large gang at a filling station caused death and destruction.

A person was fatally shot and another hijacked at a petrol station in Etwatwa, near Benoni, during a robbery and ATM bombing in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, a gang of about 20 men entered the garage and bombed three ATMs.

“The suspects further hijacked a Toyota Quantum from a customer who was at the petrol station and shot another motorist who was driving at the time. The victim lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wall. He was later certified dead.”

Masondo says the hijacked Quantum was found abandoned in Daveyton.

Etwatwa police have opened a case of business robbery, ATM bombing, murder and car hijacking. Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information that can assist the police in apprehending the suspects can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
