Man stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend

A group of people attacked the victim with a knife, seemingly for no reason.

A 32-year-old man was attacked and stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend in the streets of Vereeniging over the weekend.

Police spokesperson, Captain Fikile Funda, confirmed that Sechaba Lethai (32) was attacked, stabbed and killed while coming from a tavern known as ‘KZN’ in Vereeniging in the early hours of the morning of Monday. Funda said that the deceased was in the company of his girlfriend while walking from the tavern.

Sedibeng Ster was reliably informed by one of the patrons of the tavern that initially a fighting started among two ladies in the tavern where one of the ladies was left angry after she was pulled by the hair. It is said that the deceased apparently managed to intervene before walking out of the tavern.

 “It was around 02:30 on the street where the fight resumed.”

The patron further said that, in the street, three people started attacking the deceased for no apparent reason. “One was seen pulling out an object that looked like a knife while attacking the deceased. After the deceased fell on the ground, the three disappeared,” said the patron.

 The police said the paramedics were assigned to the crime scene and the man was declared dead on arrival. Police said preliminary investigations reveal that the deceased was a victim of robbery. It is said that one suspect was arrested at his work place on Monday morning after he was apparently pointed out by other patrons who were present at the time of the attack.

A case of murder is being investigated by the police.
