Manhunt launched after murder of Celia da Costa
Police have launched a manhunt after the murder of Celia da Costa, owner of popular Johannesburg restaurant Rodizio Brazilian Restaurant.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, Da Costa, 49, was shot dead on Saturday while travelling with a staff member on the M1 highway towards Sandton. The two were reportedly cornered by a Mercedes and a VW Golf, Fourways Review reported.
“The woman and the unidentified staff member were the pulled from the vehicle and shot after an altercation with the suspects. The woman was shot in the left side of her neck,” Makhubela said.
The suspects then allegedly forced the boot of Da Costa’s car open with a crowbar before fleeing with an undisclosed number of goods. No arrests have been made.
The Rodizio Brazilian Restaurant franchise has branches at the Leaping Frog Shopping Centre in Fourways, north of Johannesburg and another in Bedfordview.
Last month, a businessman was shot and killed while driving in Laudium, Pretoria.
The man was travelling with his brother when they were followed from Laudium by a white and a black Volkswagen Golf.
According to the brothers, occupants of the Golf opened fired when they turned into Wierda Road from the R55. The two were reportedly transporting large amounts of cash.
