Police are searching for three men in connection with the murder of a nine-month-old Mamelodi baby girl and the shooting of her 39-year-old mother.

Mamelodi police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said the suspects, with balaclavas, broke into a shack in Mamelodi East, extension 12, in the early hours of Monday.

“One of the men was carrying a firearm when they broke into the shack, shot and killed the baby girl and shot her mother in the upper body,” said Maheso.

Maheso said the men forced open the door while the two victims were asleep.

“The men managed to flee on foot with money they stole from the mother. The baby girl died on the scene.”

Police provided no description of the men.

Maheso said the mother was taken to hospital and is in a “serious but stable” condition.

“Mamelodi East police have already started with the investigations of three cases of murder, attempted murder, and house robbery.”

Anyone with information on the suspects can contact the police at 10111 or 08600-10111 or Colonel Tsebe at 082-461-6460.
