Mark Lifman murder: Suspects in George court today

The formal bail application of murder accused Johannes Jacobs and Gert Bezuidenhout is expected to be heard.

The formal bail application of Johannes Jacobs (53) and Gert Bezuidenhout (37), accused of murdering controversial businessman and alleged Cape Town underworld figure Mark Lifman (57), is expected to be heard in the George Magistrate’s Court this morning.

George Herald reports Lifman was shot dead in a meticulously planned assassination at 11:38 on November 3, in the parking area of the Garden Route Mall. The suspects were apprehended at 16:00 the same day near Uniondale.

According to reliable sources, the suspects work in the security industry as bodyguards and are skilled marksmen who participate in shooting competitions nationwide.

Jacobs is a former police officer who served on the police’s specialist task team and was dismissed in 1998/1999.

George Herald has been granted permission to take photos and videos during today’s and tomorrow’s court proceedings.
