Metro officer hit by car while directing traffic on M7

The police officer had to be airlifted to a specialist facility.

A Metro police officer is in a serious condition after being hit by a light motor vehicle while directing traffic at the M7 accident earlier this morning.

Rescue Care Paramedics spokesman, Sheldon Lombard, said it is believed the officer was struck while directing traffic to allow for the recovery of the vehicles involved.

“Upon the arrival of Rescue Care Paramedics, it was found that the patient was in a serious condition and required advanced life support care to be stabilised. The patient was stabilised by Advanced Life Support Paramedics and handed over to the Netcare Aeromedical Helicopter for rapid transportation to a specialist facility,” added Lombard.
