Military vets to defend Luthuli House against DA power protest
The official opposition party will march to the ANC headquarters in Johannesburg to voice their concern over ongoing electricity issues.
Members of uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans’ Association (MKMVA) have vowed to protect their revolutionary house amid the looming DA electricity march – planned to take place tomorrow.
This is after a protest alert by the DA started making rounds, in which the party states they plan to close down the ANC home in Johannesburg.
On Monday I will be at the North Gauteng High Court where we will argue to abolish cadre deployment. The ANC policy that destroyed Eskom, wrecked SA, and enriched the gangster state.

Gauteng’s MKMVA provincial chairperson Bronson Thinane says they will do ‘whatever it takes’ to protect Chief Albert Luthuli House.
“We have authorised our MK members and platoons to defend our revolutionary house. It is unfair for a political party to march to another political party’s home. If the DA wants to march or protest against anyone, they should march to [the] Union Buildings where the government sits,” he explains.
Thinane says the MKMVA is not going to fight anyone, but protect their members and political home.
“Our [job] is to protect our staffers and building. We will not fight the DA or anyone, but no one is allowed to threaten our staff. Our platoons will be at the ANC headquarters from as early as 07:00,” he adds.
The DA said it would march to the ANC headquarters to demonstrate against rolling power cuts and the National Energy Regulator of SA’s approval of an electricity tariff increase of 18.65% for the 2023/2024 financial year.
DA leader John Steenhuisen said in a tweet that ‘Luthuli is where ANC takes decision to deploy corrupt cadres’.
“The DA protest will specifically target Luthuli House, because this is the scene of crime that the ANC continues to penetrate [towards] the people of SA. There is only one organisation that is responsible for the misery and hardship that the electricity crisis is causing all South Africans and it’s time to hold this criminal organisation accountable,” the tweet reads.
I can announce that the DA is organising a major protest march to the ANC headquarters at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on 25 January against the ANC-engineered electricity crisis. Stage 6 load shedding has taken away your power. It is time to take away the ANC’s.
