MK Party suffers setback in KZN by-elections
Experts were expecting the MK Party to use the by-elections to consolidate its dominance in KZN.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party, which in the May 29 general elections got the lion’s share of the KwaZulu-Natal vote, suffered a setback after securing only one ward out of the twelve contested during the province’s Wednesday by-elections.
Experts were widely expecting the MK Party to use the by-elections to consolidate its dominance in KZN but the by-elections proved to be a reversal of fortunes for former president Jacob Zuma’s MK Party.
On the other hand, the IFP, which before the May 29 general elections was on an upwards trajectory, continued the trend of amassing wards in the province’s by-elections – winning seven out of the twelve contested wards.
