Mossel Bay Drilling: Impact assessment to start

The scoping report for the proposed exploratory drilling offshore of Mossel Bay has been accepted by the Department of Minerals and Energy.

Total Exploration and Production (E&P) South Africa wishes to undertake the drilling, Mossel Bay Advertiser reports.

In a letter to interested and affected parties, SLR Consulting, the company Total is using to keep stakeholders informed, notes that the acceptance means that the Scoping and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) process may continue in accordance with the Plan of Study for EIA presented in Section 9 of the Scoping Report and the EIA Regulations of 2014.

SLR Consulting states that this acceptance does not constitute an approval of the application for environmental authorisation made in terms of section 24 of the National Environmental Management Act (107 of 1998).

Total hopes to drill in block 11B / 12B off the south coast.

Registered interested and affected parties will be advised in due course of the availability of the ESIA Report for review and comment, SLR Consulting states.

Anyone who has a query, or requires further information, should contact Candice Sadan at SLR Consulting (csadan@slrconsulting.com). Also, to register as an interested and or affected party, contact Sadan.
