Mother allegedly hijacked outside Edenvale school
A mother was the victim of a hijacking outside her child’s nursery school in Eastleigh, on the East Rand, Edenvale police confirmed.
“We have reason to believe that the woman was followed from Bedfordview yesterday afternoon,” the acting spokesperson for Edenvale police, Lieutenant-Colonel Robbie Roberts, told Bedfordview Edenvale News.
He added the suspects made off with the woman’s car as well as a large amount of money.
“We cannot say it enough times. Be alert when you are travelling with a large amount of money,” said Roberts, who advised motorists to avoid withdrawing substantial amounts of money.
“If it is necessary to do so, remain alert of your surroundings at all times. Consistently change your routes. If you are being followed, rather drive to the nearest police station or busy area,” said Roberts.
This after a mother was hijacked outside the Kloof pre-primary school in KwaZulu-Natal last year.
CCTV footage of the incident has been handed to police to aid in the ensuing investigation after going viral.
Enforce security services confirmed the mother in the video, identified as Susan West, sustained no injuries during the incident. At the start of the video, West is seen arriving at the school, parking the vehicle and later exiting with her child.
The three suspects make their first appearance in the video at the 50 second mark. The suspects casually walk across the parking lot and hang around until an unsuspecting West returns.
At the 1:30 mark of the video, the suspects notice West returning and move in towards her.
It is believed the suspects held her up by gunpoint just outside the view of the camera and demanded the keys to the vehicle. No arrests were said to have been made following the incident.
