Motorist arrested after fatally hitting JMPD officer
The JMPD officer was attending to another accident scene when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

A man (28) was recently arrested after hitting a JMPD officer while she was attending to an accident scene on the N12 in Johannesburg.
The motorist arrested on charges of culpable homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop at an accident scene by JMPD officers on the N12 West between Golden Highway and K43 in Eldorado Park.
According to spokesperson of the JMPD, Xolani Fihla, the incident took place on July 2 at about 03:00.
JMPD officers and traffic wardens from the Bylaws Management Unit were attending to two accident scenes on the route when a Renault Sandero drove at a high speed hitting a 37-year-old female JMPD traffic warden, Luleka Sobetshe.
The driver of the Sandero then failed to stop after hitting Sobetshe. Officers on the scene gave chase and managed to apprehend the driver.
Emergency services were called and unfortunately Sobetshe was declared deceased on the scene.
The driver of the Sandero was breathalysed and the reading from the alcometer was 0.69mg/l which is over the legal limit of 0.24mg/l.
The driver was arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS. He is due to appear in court during the course of the week.
“JMPD Acting Chief of Police, Thulani Maxwell Khanyile and the whole department sent their deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Sobetshe family, friends, and colleagues. May her dear soul repose peacefully,” said Fihla.
