Mpumalanga health department to probe deaths of two infants

Initially it was thought that the infants might have died due to lack of oxygen.

The department of health in Mpumalanga has launched an investigation to determine the cause for the death of two infants at the children’s ward at Shongwe Hospital near the border to the Kingdom of Eswatini, Mpumalanga News reports.

“Initially it was thought that the infants might have died due to lack of oxygen, but our preliminary investigations proved that this was not the cause. We have since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the death. Results of those investigations will give us a direction on what needs to be done,”explained Mr Dumisani Malamule, spokesperson for the department.
