Mpumalanga policeman’s murder: 2 appear in court

The provincial Hawks cannot rule out more arrests in connection with the murder of Warrant Officer Langelihle Hlatshwayo.

Mpumalanga police are making strides in their investigations into 2022’s murder of Warrant Officer Langelihle Hlatshwayo.

On Saturday, a second suspect was arrested in connection with the murder in the Piet Retief area last year.

The latest arrest is that of a 39-year-old man who was nabbed in Eziphunzi, eThandukukhanya at Piet Retief in a joint collaboration of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit based in Secunda and the Secunda K9 Unit.

The first arrest was that of a 30-year-old man who was arrested in Evander on Thursday.

The arrested duo appeared in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court today, and Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale says more arrests cannot be ruled out.

The murder

Gunmen attacked and shot Hlatshwayo as he was entering his house on February 18 last year.

He was taken to the provincial hospital in Piet Retief and then transferred to Mediclinic Highveld in Trichardt where he later succumbed to his injuries.
