Mpumalanga town awakes to streets littered with dead chickens

Residents had to join hands in a massive clean-up operation to get rid of the smelly carcasses.

Delmas residents were yesterday awoken by a terrible smell and disturbing images of chicken carcasses strewn in the streets of the town.

Unconfirmed reports are that the chickens fell from a truck, after the trailer’s hatch opened without the driver noticing. It is alleged that the truck was underway to a feed plant in Greylingstad via Delmas.

Local rendering plants, companies and volunteers joined hands in a massive, and smelly, clean-up operation.

The Department of Environmental Affairs as well as a state veterinarian were allegedly contacted to follow the proper procedure during the clean-up operation.

Their feedback could not be obtained at the time of publishing. Attempts to trace the feed plant is ongoing.
