Mpumalanga’s Covid-19 related death toll rises to 189 as of August 16

The Mpumalanga Department of Health confirmed that the number of Covid-19 cases in the province has increased to 21 216.

South Africa has recorded 198 671 confirmed infections, according to an announcement by the minister of health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, on Sunday, August 16. A total of 21 216 of those cases have been reported in Mpumalanga.

According to data released by the Mpumalanga Department of Health, there have been 18 430 recoveries and 189 deaths to date.

The number of positive cases in the province can be broken down as follows:

Ehlanzeni District

  • Bushbuckridge: 577 cases, 486 recoveries and five deaths
  • City of Mbombela: 3 409 cases, 2 805 recoveries and 16 deaths
  • Nkomazi: 1 564 cases, 1 357 recoveries and four deaths
  • Thaba Chweu: 297 cases and 255 recoveries and one death.

Gert Sibande District

  • Chief Albert Luthuli: 577 cases, 505 recoveries and five deaths
  • Dipaliseng: 300 cases and 282 recoveries
  • Dr Pixely Ka Isaka Seme: 735 cases, 655 recoveries and six deaths
  • Govan Mbeki: 2 965 cases, 2 572 recoveries and 24 deaths
  • Lekwa: 935 cases, 834 recoveries and 27 deaths
  • Mkhondo: 404 cases, 324 recoveries and 14 deaths
  • Msukaligwa: 1 222 cases, 1 053 recoveries and 28 deaths.

Nkangala District

  • Dr JS Moroka: 311 cases, 279 recoveries and five deaths
  • eMakhazeni: 300 cases and 253 recoveries and eight deaths
  • eMalahleni: 4 609 cases, 4 146 recoveries and 27 deaths
  • Steve Tshwete: 2 037 cases, 1 726 recoveries and 11 deaths
  • Thembisile Hani: 552 cases, 505 recoveries and four deaths
  • Victor Khanye: 422 cases and 393 recoveries and four deaths.
