Murder suspect expected in Free State court after extradition from Lesotho

Police found a woman lying in a pool of blood, and despite being in a critical condition, she was able to give a description of her attacker.

A 29-year-old man is expected to appear in the Hennenman Magistrate’s Court, in the Free State, soon, on murder charges, following his extradition from Lesotho. The suspect was arrested in Lesotho earlier this year and subsequently sent to South African authorities.

Bloemfontein Courant reports it is alleged that in August last year, the suspect stabbed his 31-year-old ex-girlfriend. Police were notified, and upon arrival found the victim lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. Despite being in critical condition, she was able to give the police a description of her attacker, allegedly that of her ex-boyfriend from Lesotho who had been living in Thabong.

“The victim recounted that the suspect had knocked on her door in the early hours of the morning. A heated altercation ensued, during which she was repeatedly stabbed in the head and body. The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived,” according to a statement released by the police.

Emergency Medical Services rushed the woman to the hospital, but she died on the way.
