Muthambi stops interim SABC board from starting work

The board was appointed a week ago by President Jacob Zuma.

Muthambi has penned a letter stating the interim board cannot take up their duties until they have been vetted by the State Security Agency.

According to News 24, Zuma signed off on the board’s appointments a week ago, and the communications minister was expected to sign off as well, allowing the board members to begin work immediately.

The board members consisting of Mathatha Tsedu, Febe Potgieter-Gqubule, John Matisonn, Khanyisile Kweyama and Krish Naidoo have been requested to send copies of their ID documents and to declare any interests in terms of section 16 and 17 of the Broadcasting Act.

“You are therefore required not to commence with your duties as an interim board member until the security clearance process has been conducted by the State Security Department.”
