Mystery deepens as British tourist vanishes near KZN’s Ghost Mountain
There’s still no sign of a UK tourist who went missing in Mkhuze, north of KZN.
The mystery disappearance of British tourist Elaine McSorley (71), who went missing while hiking on September 27, deepens.
Zululand Observer reports that Elaine has not been seen or heard from since she ‘disappeared’ in the shadow of the ominously named Ghost Mountain in Mkhuze, KZN.
Elaine and her husband, who were booked in at Ghost Mountain Inn, reportedly decided to go for an afternoon walk to a dam to look for hippos.
Her husband returned to the hotel, but it is reported that Elaine was adamant she wanted to proceed to the dam, continued, and was never seen again.

Authorities were alerted to her missing status when she didn’t return to the hotel that evening.
IPSS Search and Rescue teams were deployed in Mkhuze to join the search.
IPSS spokesperson Samantha Meyrick said an extensive search has been conducted using manpower, SAPS K9s, drones, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
“The search brought together volunteers from security companies, the local community, CPF, and various game reserves to assist Mkhuze SAPS, and SAPS K9 Search and Rescue units from Vryheid and Empangeni.

“Despite extensive searches of the area, there has been no sign of the missing woman.
“SAPS will continue to investigate, with the hope of returning to narrow down the search area,” said Meyrick.
She said they appreciate the contributions made by Ghost Mountain Inn and Mkhuze SuperSpar.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sibusiso Mkhize confirmed that Elaine is still missing and said her husband has left the country using a temporary passport.
“She was last seen wearing a white blouse and black pants. She has blonde hair and blue eyes,” said Mkhize.
Anyone with information on Elaine’s whereabouts can contact Detective Sergeant SJ Khoza on 072 127 8765 or on 035 573 1088. Alternatively, call Crime Stop on 086 00 10111.
