North West man in court for double murder

Paul Prinsloo allegedly shot his wife Magdalena Prinsloo and his stepdaughter Ruzanne Weideman with a hunting rifle after an argument.

The 61-year-old Paul Prinsloo from Kosmos, North West, who is accused of shooting and killing his wife and stepdaughter, made a brief second appearance in the Brits Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

In reply to magistrate Reagan Rosenburg’s request to advise on his legal representative, Prinsloo said he was hoping to get a lawyer appointed by the state.

The case was postponed to December 12 for Prinsloo to obtain legal aid and file a bail application. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

Prinsloo is accused of shooting and killing his wife Magdaleen Prinsloo (58) and stepdaughter Ruzanne Weideman (31) with a hunting rifle following an argument at their home in Kosmos on November 27.

He was arrested and taken into custody shortly afterwards on the same day.

Local police spokesperson Constable Ben Moabi said an argument between the man and the two women broke out around 14:00. “The suspect fetched a hunting rifle and shot and killed both women. They were declared dead on the scene by emergency services.”
