Norwood Police Station commander resigns

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said, “The station commander resigned on Friday due to personal reasons.”

Station Commander for the Norwood Police Station Colonel Phetole Mahasha has resigned.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said, “The station commander resigned on Friday, January 14, 2022, due to personal reasons. Service delivery has not been hampered since an acting station commander has been appointed,” said Sello.

This news comes after it was discovered that 158 firearms had allegedly been stolen at the police station.

Earlier in the week, chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Tina Joemat-Petterson called for urgent disciplinary measures against any SAPS member found to be involved in the loss of firearms at the station.
