Off-duty George cop shot in his home
A gunman who shot a police officer fled in a Volkswagen Polo, which was later found abandoned in Dana Bay.
A 25-year-old constable stationed at the George Police Station was shot and wounded in his home in Meade Street during the early hours of yesterday morning.
George Herald reports that Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies says officers responded to the scene at about 03:40 after receiving reports of a shooting.
The off-duty constable had sustained several gunshot wounds to his body and was rushed to hospital, where he remains under medical care.
The suspect fled in a Volkswagen Polo, which was later found abandoned in Dana Bay. No arrests have been made, and the suspect is still at large.
George detectives have opened a case of attempted murder for investigation.
