Off-duty Tshwane metro cop killed as car rolls into him
The Tshwane metro police are mourning the death of an officer who was killed in a road crash in Bronkhorstspruit on Saturday evening.
Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the police department was saddened by the death of the officer – which occured around 19:00.
“The officer was off duty and travelling alone in his private vehicle when the accident occurred. He died on the scene.” Mahamba said the case was being investigated further by the police.
“We urge anyone who might have witnessed the accident to contact the nearest SAPS or TMPD.”
Mahamba said according to information on the scene, it seemed like no other vehicle was involved, as the car had rolled over.
Mahamba said the TMPD was deeply shocked and saddened by his passing, especially during the period of the festive season where TMPD had been intensifying its operations to minimise road fatalities.
“We send deeply felt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. The department will continue to assist his family with counselling where needed.”
Mahamba said the sergeant’s identity would be released as soon as family members had been notified.
