Oldest teacher on the continent passes away in Mpumalanga

Qwelane had been a teacher since 1940.

A veteran in the teaching profession, the recipient of the Order of Baobab from the president, and the oldest teacher on the continent, Gogo Nontsikelelo Qwelane, has passed away.

She died on Sunday at the age of 100 years and seven months.

She had lived to see her fourth generation. She had two children, five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at Metropolitan College on Thursday from 07:00 until 09:00 and she will be laid to rest at Rocky Drift Cemetery.
