One of four alleged house robber shot by police
A case of house robbery is under investigation after one of four suspects was shot from a police helicopter following a shootout in Azaadville, Krugersdorp in Gauteng.
Major Mack Mngomezulu said a married couple was tied by the suspects who entered their home recently, Krugersdorp News reported.
“The suspects ransacked the house and took household items and a silver Mercedes Benz before fleeing the scene,” added Mngomezulu.
He said the vehicle had a tracking device installed, which made it possible for police to track down the suspects.
“A shootout ensued and one of the suspects was shot in the lower limbs and was taken to a nearby hospital under police guard.”
The three suspects are still at large.
Earlier this month, a 30-year-old alleged robber was shot dead on the Tweefontein farm plot in Polokwane, Limpopo.
It is alleged a 19-year-old man and his mother were asleep at their homestead when suddenly the boy heard someone tampering with the door of his room.
The man reportedly woke up and waited in anticipation, and in the process two men armed with a hammer and a broken bottle stormed the room and started demanding money from the boy, said Polokwane police spokesperson Captain Ntobeng Phala.
A scuffle ensued between the two men and the victim, and as a result the victim was stabbed in the head and on the arm. A laptop, cellphone, a bag containing a wallet and a tablet were taken as the two men proceeded to the mother’s room, added Phala.
It is believed the mother locked herself inside her room.
“When the two suspects returned from the man`s room, the boy was waiting with a firearm on his hands.
“Shots were fired, and in the process one of the suspects, 30, was shot twice in the chest. He was declared dead at the scene,” he said.
