Pietermaritzburg residents fear for their safety: Another CBD murder
After hearing gunshots, security company officials found a man covered with a blanket and weighed down with bricks.
The recent murder of a 35-year-old man in the Pietermaritzburg CBD has raised concerns about the high levels of crime in the city centre.
On Friday, two unknown men approached Pacific Mwacha (35), near James Street, and shot him in the face at point-blank range.
Speaking to The Witness, Mi7 National Group director Colin David said one of their reaction officers was tending to a client in Pietermaritz Street when, at approximately 19:00, he received reports of gunshots.
“The officer conducted a search of the area to ascertain where the gunshot emanated from. After a short while, he discovered the body near James Street,” David said.
“The body was found covered with a blanket and weighed down with bricks. A large group of people, many of them armed, had gathered in the vicinity,” he added.
