Police find missing Randfontein businessman’s body

The body of a prominent businessman who suddenly disappeared, was found less than 24 hours after he was reported missing.

Randfontein Police confirmed the body that was found in an open field in Ivory Park Clayville Ext 77 this morning, is that of a well-known businessman who was reported missing yesterday.

Leon Hefer’s suddenly disappearance sparked concerns yesterday and a missing person’s case was opened.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks previously said that Hefer was last spotted at a service station on Lazar Street in Randgate. This was around 13:00 yesterday.

Investigations continued and Hendricks confirmed this morning that his body was found in one of the suburbs.

Hendricks said at about 07:00, Randfontein detective Lieutenant Colonel Moss, Captain Van Der Merwe and the investigating officer, Sergeant Seshoka, received information of an unknown body that was found lying in an open field in Ivory Park.

It was said that the body might fit the description of the missing person that was reported at Randfontein Police.

They proceeded to Germiston Pathology Services to identify the body. It was then confirmed that it is indeed Hefer’s body.

“The vehicle that was used by the deceased – a silver VW Polo with registration number XXK 182 GP – is still not found,” Hendricks added and said the case is still under investigation.
