Just two weeks after a large-scale crystal methamphetamine manufacturing operation was dismantled in Musina, police seized dagga valued at approximately R525 000 during a multidisciplinary law enforcement operation in the area on Friday (September 4), reports Polokwane Review.

Eleven black plastic bags containing dagga were confiscated during Operation Retshepeng, which was led by Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, newly appointed MEC for Transport and Community Safety Nakedi Kekana, and Saps provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers.

The operation brought together SAPS, the Border Management Authority, SANDF, traffic officers and several government departments to strengthen law enforcement and enforce immigration and other legislation.

One arrested for dealing

One female suspect was arrested for allegedly dealing in dagga. Police also seized two weighing scales, a roll of sellotape and a cellphone in connection with the drug bust.

Undocumented foreign nationals arrested

The operation resulted in several other arrests and enforcement actions.
Sixty-two undocumented foreign nationals were arrested, while two people were arrested for allegedly selling liquor without a licence and five for contravening the Liquor Act.

One person was arrested for allegedly overstaying in South Africa, while two suspects were arrested for selling expired goods.

Traffic enforcement

Traffic officers issued 21 summonses, executed 27 warrants for traffic offences and impounded two maxi-taxis allegedly operating without valid permits.

Police also confiscated various liquor, food, cleaning and personal-care products during the operation.

Court appearance

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on various charges.
