8 years in court: Polokwane businessman applies for relaxed bail conditions
It is alleged that in 2015, Rameez Patel beat, shot, and strangled his wife Fatima in their home in Polokwane.
In a murder trail that has been dragging on for years, there now is yet another delay as Rameez Patel has applied for his bail conditions to be relaxed.
The defence in Patel’s murder case awaits a decision by Judge Joseph Raulinga on July 4 to grant him domestic travel or not, as per their latest application.
Patel currently reports weekly to the Westenburg Police Station as part of his bail conditions, and he is therefore restricted from travelling as he wishes.
His counsel applied for him to at least report to any other local police station weekly.
Patel stands accused of murdering his wife, Fatima, in 2015 in their home in Nirvana, Polokwane.
When his defence applied for this request in February, they simultaneously applied for multiple witnesses to testify in what would potentially favour Rameez in his wife’s murder.
At the time, Raulinga said they needed to bring forth compelling evidence as to why this was necessary.
During his appearance in the Limpopo High Court’s Polokwane Division on Wednesday, Patel’s defence said it was necessary for his brother, Razeen, to testify as a key witness as there was footage of him declaring information that was against his testimony made three years ago before the court.
