Pretoria drag race disaster: Man rushed to hospital in critical condition
Gezina residents urge authorities to deal with the illegal racing in Voortrekker Road, following another high-speed collision.
What started as fun, ended in a tragic incident on Sunday on Voortrekker Road in Gezina, Pretoria, when a drag racer lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a sidewalk.
In a video circulating on social media, a blue Mazda RX and a red BMW can be seen what looks like drag racing. Bystanders can be heard cheering on the drivers.
Moments later, the Mazda can be seen losing control and hitting the sidewalk.

According to reports, the driver was critically injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
It remains unclear as to how many more people were injured on the scene.
Tshwane Emergency Services and the metro police department could not provide any information about the accident.
Emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso told Pretoria Rekord: “We are not aware of the incident, and we don’t have such a call log in our call book.”
Voortrekker Road is notorious for illegal drag racing, resulting in the death of innocent people. Activists and residents had previously called for action over the illegal drag racing in Pretoria.
This was after people witnessed a high-speed accident, believed to have been caused by a collision between cars racing.
The incident sparked widespread condemnation from residents, police, anti-crime, and civil action groups, demanding the city takes immediate action to stop drag racing and the carnage it causes.
