The winner aged 50-something plans to extend his current home for rental income and acquire a house in the suburbs.

The winner of a life-changing jackpot has received over R25m after purchasing a ticket at a Pick n Pay, according to National Lottery operator Ithuba.

In a statement, Ithuba said it was proud to announce that R25 287 948 was won during the Powerball Plus Draw on December 1.

“The winning ticket, a golden ticket to a life-altering jackpot, was purchased at a Pick n Pay in Pretoria.”

Ithuba said the lucky man in his 50s had said this was the best December of his life, ending the year as a multi-millionaire.

The man said he had been playing the lottery since its inception in South Africa, and was steadfast in the belief that his day to win would arrive.

He planned to extend his current home for rental income and acquire a house in the suburbs. He also intended to invest the rest of his winnings to ensure financial growth.

The man said the jackpot had enabled him to retire comfortably.

Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza added: “These exceptional victories encapsulate the dreams and aspirations symbolised by the National Lottery.

“Witnessing the impact of these wins, instilling joy and hope in our players, fills us with immense pride. We eagerly anticipate the chance to meet our latest millionaire and assist him on his path to newfound prosperity.”
