Pretoria woman allegedly assaulted outside nightclub
Pretoria police are investigating a case of assault after a third-year law student was allegedly beaten by two women in the parking lot of a nightspot.
Arielle Bourbon (23) was reportedly attacked by two women outside the Menlyn Piazza in the east of Pretoria.
The altercation started when one of the women reportedly called the student “fat”, Rekord Mootreported.
“When I told her that her comment was totally uncalled for, her blonde friend attacked me out of the blue, hitting me with her fists in my face,” Bourbon said.
The women allegedly kicked and stepped on Bourbon with high heels
CCTV cameras captured the alleged attacked while a security guard standing nearby refused to intervene.
“This all happened while the security guard on duty watched the attack with his hands in his pockets,” Bourbon said, adding that the guard had said he refused to assist her “as his personal safety came first”.
Bourbon later received treatment at the Wilgers Hospital in Pretoria before reporting the incident to Brooklyn police on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Linda Jerling on Friday confirmed that a case of common assault had been opened, and that the alleged incident was being investigated.
In a similar incident, a Benoni woman was allegedly punched in the face in what appeared to be a road rage incident in November.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of a shopping centre after the woman was accused of reversing into another female motorist’s car.
The motorist got out of her car and called the woman names before allegedly punching her four times in the face.
A case of common assault was later opened.
