Pretoria woman shot dead at work
A woman has been shot dead, allegedly by her ex-fiancé, in the east of Pretoria on Wednesday morning.
The 33-year-old administrative clerk at Cura Health Insurance, on Rubenstein Drive, was about an hour into her workday when she was killed, Rekord East reported.
The woman, whose identity is being withheld until her family is notified, was declared dead when paramedics arrived at the scene earlier today.
An eyewitness said the man arrived at the office on a motorcycle at about 9am. He apparently asked for the woman at reception, and when she walked down the staircase, he pulled out a firearm and shot her.
“We were too shocked to do anything,” the eyewitness said. The man fled on a green motorcycle.
It is believed the woman was shot three times by the man, whom she apparently kicked out of their apartment two weeks ago after he allegedly started to abuse her.
Garsfontein police spokesperson Dave Miller said the police were on the lookout for the killer. Investigations are ongoing.
This after a man stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in Rothdene, Meyerton, before jumping in front of a truck, killing himself, last year.
After stabbing Madezelle Smit, 28, Shaun Pretorius took her car and her dog and drove in the direction of Vereeniging, Captain Shado Mashobane said at the time.
Pretorius stopped on the R59, got out the car with the dog and ran in front of a moving truck.
Smit’s body was found with multiple stab wounds. She died on the scene.
Mashobane said it was believed the two had broken up a week or two before the incident, but it was not known what triggered Pretorius’s attack on her. Police opened an inquest docket.
